Camera lens broke whilst at Stonehenge. Brilliant timing. It also happens to be the same fault that took another of my lenses out (from the same manufacturer) before I went to Silverstone.

And the flakey lens manufacturer is...? (I hope it's not Sigma)

Tamron. I think I'll be replacing it with either a Sigma or Pentax. The last Tamron to break was replaced with a Pentax.

I'd go with Sigma - the impression I have is that they're doing a bit better with their QC than they used to and the glass is quite nice.

It's more the idiocy of the ruling that gets me.

So, went to Edinburgh yesterday to see stuff at the Fringe with the parents and siblings.

The main reason was to see Nina Conti's show. This was achieved and thoroughly enjoyable so no fail there.
On a more last minute thing we were also going to see John Lloyds Emperor of the Prawns show. Because we'd only got the tickets a few days ago online we had to go and pick them up from one of the pickup locations in the city center. If you've ever been to Edinburgh you will know that pretty much everything manages to be up a hill at some point and this was the case here. Naturally, being the Edinburgh Festival everything was heaving which added an extra layer of joy. Still, collected the tickets and set off for the venue (more hill).
We were a bit early so went to a nice wee cafe next door for a drink. It was here that I spotted that the tickets we had were for the next day (this is to say, today). Not surprisingly, the venue was packed so were could just sneak in the back. Arse!

So, we didn't get to see John Lloyd's show. On the plus side the tickets weren't a total loss as I've got an auntie who lives in Edinburgh who could use them so they won't go to waste. Still, was rather frustrating.
I'm so glad it wasn't me who'd booked the tickets.

I did however get to see John Lloyd - he was waiting outside the venue before the show started and said hello when he came in.

Never mind.

Sheer pandemonium but very fun... provided it's not p!ssing down with rain (which it wasn't fortunately)

Hmm, your 7 year old server croaks, what do you do?

That's right, you take the 7 year old backup tape that has been used for backups every day for the last 7 years and do a restore... Oh, wait, the tape wore out 4 years ago and it is empt!!! :(

That, for someone working in the I.T. industry, is very much a n00b error.
Did you facepalm? I think I would've done if it was me.

If they had IT equipment that their company made profit off (or that was required to make profit from something else) and they didn't spend some of that profit on competent IT staff to look after it, they deserve all they get.

In the food industry, many small companies can barely afford to buy the hardware and the software that they legally have to have, let alone pay somebody to look after it...
