I suspect whatever measure is used to make the distribution 'fair', Germany will end up having to accept the largest number. It's the biggest country, biggest population, largest economy etc. Not that some other places can't accept more, just that in a bare numbers comparison Germany is always going to come off worst.

Plus as things stand there's no way to stop them moving from country to country as they wish anyway once they're registered. The only option is to exclude asylum seekers from the EU's freedom of movement treaties. Once you have exceptions for them, wait and see how hard some countries hammer on that wedge...

You are correct, Germany will always have to take the brunt, that isn't the issue per se, but Austria and Sweden are much smaller countries, smaller than many other countries in the EU, yet they are at positions 2 and 3! Given the relatively small amount of usable land and the smaller populations (Austria and Sweden have about 15% the population of the UK, for example and 10% that of France), they are definitely punching above their weight and many other countries should be ashamed. (BTW, not having a go at the UK, we have already discussed that they take on a fair few, France really should be taking on way more than the UK, for example - actually, they should be taking on about the same number as Germany.)

The United Nations has commented on this situation too.

Quote:
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) today called once again for a comprehensive response to the worsening reception conditions for refugees and migrants in Calais, saying that the situation in the French port city is unmanageable.

There are an estimated 3,000 refugees and migrants in Calais and in the northern coast of France today – virtually the same number as last November, according to UNHCR. However, the rising death toll among refugees and migrants, at least 10 since the beginning of June, attempting to cross the Channel from Calais to the United Kingdom is a “worrying” development.

You can't go letting a little thing like the facts get in the ways of a good panicky headline.

To be fair, if 3000 people turned up at your front door 'horde' might well be one of the words that pop into your head. Of course it's not 3000 people turning up at one door, it's 3000 people spread over an entire country.

This government is very keen on using domestic analogies - 'overspending on the credit card', 'mending the roof while the sun shines' etc - when in reality running a country is absolutely eff all like running a house.

Yeah, after reading the local paper in Baden-Würtenburg last week, 3000 is less than half of the refugees that were registered in just that one state in July...

it costs these illegals many € or £ or $ to get from their country to a staging board to enter the EU
then it costs them more €£$ to get across to the EU then it costs more €£$ to get to the UK

the poor within these countries can not afford this in any way shape or form

who is funding this ? ...

Corrected it for you. Using dehumanising terms like “illegals” is certainly not the right thing to do. It‘s a nice trick by the right wing press and politicians to stop you thinking about them as human beings so that whatever despicable plan to halt their progress becomes acceptable. We should not be stooping to that level.
