If he wants to not die while suffering a terribly slow painful death, that's up to him. He doesn't have to use this right if it's given to people.
If I had one of these terrible conditions, I'd want to end it.

In a weird twist. Animals are allowed have their lives terminated but humans must soldier on in agonising pain etc against their wishes.

+1 I'll probably be in that position and I'd really prefer that somebody doesn't have to risk prosecution to help me when the time comes.
