Er, how about putting the taste back in food? You've to gorge just to give your taste buds a reaction average fare now tastes so bland.

And if it's actually a chocolate bar or whatever, the salt is quite often hanging out of it because that's all it's got to offer.

The problem I am finding is the lack of imagination in food, and the fashion to throw chilli in just to “pep it up”. I’m not a fan of chillis, and I have a low tolerance for that kind of hot heat. It’s almost like it’s become a shorthand for “taste” which is ridiculous as there are so many other flavours that can be used to make an excellent meal.

I was in San Francisco a long while back with a company I was working for, and we had an end of show meal. Some friends of the boss’ brother came along, and one had a steak which was, basically, the side of a cow vaguely wafted near a flame on the way to the table. And he ate it too.

I like chilli, but I understand your gripe. The ever increasing number of (mainly) men who have started growing chillies and think they are the perfect addition to any recipe. Lord help you if you engage one of the boring bastards in a conversation, ANY conversation - It doesn't matter, they'll soon change the subject and drone on about their Habaneros and how their chilli garden has" transformed" their cooking, they all think it's turned them into Jamie Oliver. Bunch of tedious tw@ts.

Having been to Vegas, I can attest to the size of meals. I had a slice of blueberry cheesecake. I was expecting it to be similar to the slivers we get here which are from a cheesecake around 8-9" diameter. My slice alone was 9" in length and about three times the height.

Portions here have always been huge. Also having carbs as side to pizza for example is just weird
