Hmm, so I have Office 365 and there was an offer on to set up a renewal (get and extra month free) so I signed up. It looks like some scrotte at wherever MS handles credit card transactions has skimmed my details because my bank has just blocked my card because of unauthorised transactions in the US. I am not amused.

Possible, although I'd be surprised if MS didn't transact UK credit card transactions inside the EU for tax reasons.

Yep, the payments all go out over Ireland. If it was a US transaction, it most probably wasn't over Microsoft. If Davros, did you click on a link or were you already logged into Office 365 and it was directly on their website? Looking at the site, I am not seeing any offers. If it was an email, it could have been a phishing scam.

Went to the website from the "manage account" button within Word so I seriously hope it wasn't a phishing scam. I appreciate it could be a massive coincidence but it seems odd it happened within less than 24 hours of entering my details on the Office website. Hadn't used my card otherwise for several days.

Never ever click on links to banking websites from third parties.

I didn't. I opened the website from the Manage account button inside Word itself. Like this: That takes you to the Office website to log in. If the link inside the Office apps has been hacked or intercepted then anyone using Office 365 is buggered. Have a look here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Renew-Office-365-for-home-58f3d0f8-15c4-4ad8-8c5f-16d682e8b545 Obviously the value was in pounds but the first month free bit was the same as I was signing up for automatic renewal for the first time.

Interesting. Any way you can pin the leak directly on MS (i.e. say it's a card you don't use very often for anything else)?

No, I only have one credit card. The only way I can pin it on MS is that I hadn't used my card for several days previously but the dodgy transactions occurred less than 24 hours after I signed up on the Office website. May be a total coincidence of course.

Amazon fail: Bought some new boots - arrived today, 2 days early. Win! Check the picture on the box, right style, size. Opened the box to discover entirely the wrong boots.
Returning them in the morning.

At work, two of the computer programs require me to change my password every thirty days. One of them requires me to utilise a capital letter and a digit as well as eight characters minimum. Which is fine. Qwerty123 works fine for me. Except I can type in qwerty123 and it will still log me in. Which defeats the point of requiring a capital letter in the password.

I actually had a similar issue recently with my hosting provider. You can set a password with a " in it, and then it would always fail to log you in after that point. I'm guessing they've got a character encoding disparity between the password reset and login screens.

Is this a fail (on Amazon's part) or just stupid..
I ordered 2 x Blu Rays for the kids costing a total of £19.20. To qualify for free delivery I needed to up the order to £20 so I added a pack of Biros for around £1.
I've had an email to say the Blu Rays will be delivered today and the pens will be dispatched separately later in the week.

My guess is the discs come via Amazon's tax loophole in Luxembourg, while the pens come from a UK warehouse.

That makes sense but it's still daft by making me spend an extra quid to tip the order over £20 they've probably increased their postage costs overall.
