The Govt. could easily outlaw the sale of cod and hence reduce our demand for it. A few people would go and see it elsewhere, but I wouldn't imagine it was many.

It's far better than using quotas, which as stated above, leads to more waste. Or maybe a heavy-handed campaign?

An option has to be found which will go down well with the public. After all, even if you banned it in the UK (which I can't see happening, if it's even legally possible) then all you'd get is a massive import of Cod. The UK government definitely couldn't unilaterally ban the sale of Cod, it'd be illegal under EU law.

I don't know, EU-wide quotas or no-fishing areas seem to be the way to go.
