Gah! First real frost of the year and I now have a lovely 30cm long crack in the windscreen! And it is one of those wrap around screens that goes halfway back along the roof of the car! After the accident 2 weeks ago, my wife wrote an SMS back, that I should give the car away, as it only causes expense!

Oof, unlucky. Would replacement be covered by your car insurance? That's quite often the case in the UK... I suppose it's possible the accident put a sub-visible crack in the windscreen which the cold has levered open.

The insurance covers it, but I have to pay the excess. The accident was me reversing out of a parking spot and catching the front wheelarch protector on a small metal post and ripping it out, so shouldn't have caused a crack in the screen. I suspect it might have been a stone chip right at the edge of the screen.

I ordered a new coffee machine - one with a steam wand for cappuccinos. It uses ground coffee but also has the facility to take those coffee pods. I had the day off but received a text this afternoon to say it had been delivered early (to my work address). I had to go into town anyway, and I was excited to try out my new machine, so I called in and picked it up. We get home, have some dinner and then I open the box. They sent a [LIFTED] slow cooker in error!

You could make coffee in it - just very slowly I had something strange happen - I ordered a fashion scarf which I received ok. And now they have sent me a second one. I suppose I could give it to someone for Xmas... lol

I was really hoping you were going to say you'd ordered a slow cooker but were sent a coffee machine

Half the stuff Poundland used to deliver is now only available in the store. Idiots.

Surveillance operation targeting sister of former paratrooper 'not properly authorised' | Law | The Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/law/2015/nov ... rooper-cpsWTF has 'authorised' got to do with 'should never have happened in the first place'? WTF is wrong with English police forces when it comes to campaigning, grieving families? It keeps happening, and I've never heard of any other UK forces doing it. Do they all train with the Met. cnuts or something?!

Noticed a small drip from the living room radiator valve earlier, so called the landlord and he sent round one of the Chuckle Brothers to "fix" it.
His opening move was to whack it with a big hammer, thus making the drip more into a squirt - now, I'm no expert but alarm bells are now ringing. Still, he's supposed to be the expert so left him to get on with it.
He then proceeded to flood the bathroom (he bled the radiator and got the valve stuck open, water everywhere!) and then he broke the gas boiler (by emptying the water from the system, it got into the PCP board, wouldn't fire up afterwards!). He dried the PCP out using a hair dryer (no, really), eventually he got it running again.
Took me two hours to clean up his mess, I'm bloody knackered now. Still, at least he fixed the leaky radiator!
Do you ever wish you hadn't asked? FFS! And the landlord asks why I won't let his workmen into the flat unless I'm there!

So it looks like I'll be working Xmas eve (and probably NYE).
Historically, one of the partners would stay behind from 1PM onwards to cover the surgery singlehandedly as hardly anybody bothered to turn up on Christmas Eve. We'd have a normal surgery in the morning and then everyone would basically leave. We could also pay out-of-hours to cover the time from 1PM to 630PM if we wanted (other surgeries did this).
This year, I've been timetabled for morning and afternoon surgery. It turns out there will be a nurse, receptionist and secretary in too.
A change from the last few years but the real kicker? No one's actually been told! Certainly I didn't know until I checked the appointment booking software for the next few weeks. Very poor form.
