OK its still a huge increase put its a promotion (even if a phoney one - your plotical leanings make determin what you think) and if I was taking on extra responsibility I would want a pay rise to

How far up the tree would you have to jump to raise your pay by 42%?

In my first job, I got a 50% raise after 3 months and by the end of the first year I was earning 100% more. I was still in the same position, but I had priced myself at the minimum the company would pay to get the job, but I had proved myself to be so good, that they doubled my salary.

I somehow doubt we've been paying her the minimum anybody would do the job for, frankly.

Probably not. I was just pointing out, without knowing the full facts, it makes a great headline of no substance, typical of the modern press.

Well the numbers don't change the core of the story which is this - "Man who has imposed 7 year pay freeze on public sector workers gives woman who reminds him to get his hair cut 42% pay rise". It doesn't matter if she was previously earning 10k a year or a 100K a year, the double standard is obvious. She's paid by the state. She is a public sector worker. But Osborne patently sees no requirement to stick to the rules he's forcing lots of other people to stick to. Rules which HE wrote. That's the story. The actually amount of money is irrelevant.

Actually when I got this job (some 7 yrs ago) I got almost a 100% pay rise. Now some of that was due to moving to London (so London allowance) but it was still a good payrise

She hasn't changed jobs. She's still got exactly the same job, she's just being paid 42% more for doing it.

Actually we don't know what - her job title has changed and we don't know what (if any) extra responsibility she has
