Posting here for quick visibilty... What's the latest camera, anything of note for a beginner, how much should a friend be spending for one that's to be used in a car/with a bicycle, and that has Wi-Fi capability?

All the thanks! ;)

Here’s my local camera shop’s break down of the range:
http://www.cameraworld.co.uk/goprocompare

I have a basic 3 series GoPro, and it’s very good. There’s WiFi on it, so I can use my phone to control it (there’s now an Apple Watch app too - I’ve not tried it yet). Not all of the cameras in the new range have WiFi so if controlling via a phone or a remote is important, get one that has that feature.

There are loads of brackets and things now to fix it to cars, bikes, your dog, and so on. Thankfully, it seems that the action camera market has agreed on a standard mount, so accessories from one should fit others.

A somewhat cheaper alternative that uses the same mounts as the GoPro.
A review of them can be found on youtube though the camera reviewed is not the wifi one.

Everyone uses those mounts. Even V-Tech's children's range uses them. It's all good, gives you a vast range of choices, and you can get standard tripod mount converters too.

I recently bought the TomTom Bandit and it's great. A lot more in the box than the GoPro too.
