Just so you can appreciate the difference between IMAX and regular 35mm film.

even if you can polish a turd, it is still a turd. or more importantly, filming in imax will not improve the story nor the acting.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

You can have the best dive gear in the world and still be stuck looking at silt, yes.
You can buy a cheap snorkel and do the same thing.
You can buy a cheap snorkel and do the barrier reef.
You can have the best dive gear in the world and do the barrier reef.

I think we've cleared that up now. :)

Supreme Leader Snorkel... Maybe with that name he wouldn't have looked like a Harry Potter reject ;)

think about the worst movie you've ever seen, and wonder how much better it would have been in imax.

Really? Because this is about the worst thing I've heard anyone saying about The Force Awakens.
You actually class this as the worst film you have ever seen?
For the record, I've not yet seen it.

So not filmed in 3D then. I thought some of it was s bit shaky (also my wife felt it was in places too - she's learning). The star destroyer hanging over the audience in one shot was particularly fine, though.

One thought though - as Leia is clearly the only royalty around, and we know that regardless of competence, royalty love to place their family members in top taking positions, then you'd expect her to hold a rank that covers all military disciplines (much like our queen is head of all armed forces). I'd certainly expect her to be more than a general (certainly at her age), unless she is that incompetent that that rank is enough to let her hold onto some kind of dignity without causing any real problems. ;-)

SPOILERS... I think the idea is that the Resistance is so fractured now that she's almost a local general for local folk ;) , though that was some team she had around her lol.

Ren apparently did a real number on them... I'd guess that's why we see so much of the rubbish Snoke as well; to justify 30 years of hurt for the Resistance.

It would, possibly, have looked better.

What a load of absolute bollocks. Hasbro are just carrying on with the usual nonsense around female character toys. Meanwhile, other companies are making an absolute fortune selling them.

Big giant cartoon bad guy and Lonely Island "I'm on a Boat [LIFTED]" Darth Vader were distractions from an otherwise very fun film. I laughed, I grinned, I cried. Very well done. It's clearly a reboot pretending to be a sequel. It's very impressive.

Everyone keeps saying it's a reboot. Yes it's a similar story to the first one but new characters are introduced and the old ones are still there. Reboot in my mind is a remake or am I missing something?

I think reboot may not be the right term but there are certainly a lot of parallels. While you still have Luke, Rey is patently 'the new Luke'. While you sit have Han, Finn is patently 'the new Han'. Equally, Kylo is apparently the new Vader.

I'd say if I was reaching for a genre way of describing it, it's more like how Star Trek:TNG reworked the ideas of the original series than a 'reboot'.

Droid carrying secret plans rescued from scavengers on desert planet by young Jedi who hasn't worked out their powers. [INSERT STUPID CGI ALIEN ATTACK] Droid and new friends get trapped on Imperial starship, but this time the old wise well-loved teacher gets killed by his younger, masked, hard-of-breathing former student later on, not yet (totally different film you see). Anyway big spherical planet destroying weapon needs to be destroyed by one point of weakness by rag tag rebellion led by Princess Leia, so let's get that out of the way. Now the young jedi-to-be needs to fly to obscure planet to train with the one remaining jedi master with the skills to train.

Star Wars : The Force Awakens breaks North America box office record
It really does look like the $4bn Disney paid George Lucas for the Star Wars franchise was a bit of a bargain.
