Total shocker - you're so used to hearing about these things in the press months beforehand.
People that talented always seem kinda immortal cos they've always been around if you get me, in a way I guess they always will be around.

Surprised but more because Bowie's cancer was kept quiet. Which TBH if it were me would be compatible with my wishes.

That was a shock. Sara Cox went all serious after her Muppets jingle, talked about press releases, mentioned his name and I just knew that was what she’d say. Completely stunned by this.
As PCernie said, there are pop stars who seem immortal. I expect it’s like that because we hear their music so much, that it’s part of our lives, and we see recordings of them performing and it all feeds into that image.
I actually feel that we are at Freddie Mercury levels of loss here. Yes, a lot of talent has passed, but Bowie was part of that rather special elite. While he and Mercury were very different musically, they seemed to be very much on the same level.

Yes, I caught the announcement by Sara Cox as well. As already said, I hadn't even realised he'd been ill. Didn't he release a new album last year?
I did have to laugh at Nick Grimshaw this morning though. They played a Bowie track and he commented how unusual it was for them to be playing it on Radio 1. Followed up by (and paraphrasing a bit here) - if I was a rock artist at the moment and listened to that I'd be feeling rather embarrassed. What's that you say Nick, large swathes of modern music not quite up to the same standards?
A great loss to music. I imagine there will rather a lot of his music being played today and all week.

very sad.
One obituary piece I read had the subheading 'the stars look very different today'. Which I thought was very apt. Possibly they could also have chosen 'Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do.'
I wasn't really a fan but I did have massive respect for what he did as a creative person. You couldn't not, frankly.

Tony Visconti, Woody Woodmansey's Holy Holy and Heaven 17 are currently on tour performing The Man Who Sold The World. Tonight they're playing in Canada and a friend of mine will be going. I imagine there will be a lot of videos of the gig online tomorrow. I've seen H17 perform Bowie and Glenn does an amazing job. Here's what Glenn Gregory had to say yesterday
