Except it might be - if they sell scouters and 90% are bought for boys (blue) and 10% for Girls (Pink) then the cost of production for the pink will be marginally higher. (not only the paint but the packaging etc as you will lose the economy of scale)

OK, so all we need to do is find a half African, half Chinese, half Asian, gay, one eyed, wheelchair bound dwarf with tourettes and a lisp, and a st st stutter and we could make the best panel show ever.

I'm sure there was a lot less blue/ pink [LIFTED] when I was a child in the 80s, I've never own anything gawdy pink. I think advertisers realise if you gender stuff, you sell twice as many

Or at least for 50% of it you can charge twice as much...

Local bike shop was selling pink bicycle pumps for a whole pound less than black ones. So it's clearly swings and roundabouts with this issue.

The example from the article with the balance bikes is bollocks. On the Halfords site the 'Kurve' bikes are as follows:

Skullz - £49.99
Fire - £49.99
Red - £59.99
Cherry - £59.99
Flower - £59.99
Dotty - £59.99
Union Jack - £59.99
Rainbow - £49.99
Splatz - £49.99
Police - £49.99
Pastel - £54.99
Evel - £59.99

The higher price models are in colour schemes for both genders, not just ripping off girls, and maybe the two lowest priced models have nothing to do with gender but simply they're the least popular models so are sold cheaper.

Also to compare more like for like there are two models featuring Union Jacks. The traditional Jack colours (for boys?) is sold for £59.99 and the pastel pink Jack colours (for girls?) is sold for £54.99. Oh look, the 'girl' one is cheaper. Now who's being ripped off?
