Theme Tune

It's a short month so don't hang about!

The Rules:

* The competition is open now and will close on 29th Feb at midnight.
* Competition may be extended depending on number of entries.
* PM me your submissions.
* ONE photo per user, however you may CHANGE your submitted photo at any time up to the due date by sending me a PM.
* There is no maximum or minimum image dimensions, we are not here to discriminate against hardware.
* Only very light editing is allowed. Adjustment of Levels, Colour Correction, Contrast, Sharpening and Cropping is allowed.
* This thread will be closed at the specified time (end of the month). No extra entries will be accepted, except under special circumstances.
* Entries breaking these rules will not be entered.
* The forum policy on images and content must be followed.
* If you wish to remain anonymous even after voting has finished, then please let me know when you are submitting your image.
* Ensure you enclose a title and please make sure whatever host you use I can download the pic.

The Process:

* Please keep the image size to something reasonable, i.e. no RAW images.

* Go out and take a photo, fitting in the theme and rules.
* Post your entry to me by PM, I will host it and post it.
* When the due date passes, the entries thread will be closed, and a voting thread created to determine the favourite.
* You will not be able to vote for your own entry.

The Tips:

* Think laterally, not literally. Makes for an interesting piece.
* Try to make everyone think about what they're looking at.
* Do what YOU think is right. Art is very subjective. What's great to you, sucks to someone else, etc.
* Title your work, it will make your choices more obvious
* This is nothing serious, have fun while you're doing it.

Voting:

* Voting occurs for one week from the 1st March until midnight on 7th March
* After voting has finished the winner chooses the next theme within a couple of days.
* Once the new theme has been chosen entries may be submitted at any time up to midnight on the last day of the month.

Have we seen that photo before?

Erm... I don't know. Maybe the person who submitted it knows?

Not long to go. I can feel a rollover coming on unless we get a last minute flood of entries. And by flood I mean one more.

Another month is soon to pass without a single additional entry. I'll take responsibility for the chosen theme clearly not inspiring others but I've also noticed a decline in interest and number of entries over many months.

In the short term what do we do? Another roll-over? Cancel the competition? I don't recall it ever being rolled over twice so it would be unprecedented but also is there any point? If the entries aren't forthcoming over two months then I'm not convinced another month with make much difference.

In the long term what do we do? As noted there has been a decline (seemingly) in interest for the competition. I don't own it though, I simply moderate it, so the decision over its future is not mine.

I've been making a concerted effort to catch up on a lot of stuff recently, so a lot has fallen by the wayside... Personally speaking, there aren't enough hours in the day!

I don't think the theme was the problem at all! It's probably been a combination of things. The weather hasn't been great, people probably aren't out and about much after Xmas anyway... There's an element of 'Oh yeah, I must remember to snap a pic...'.

I'd hate to see the competition die, but I don't know what the answer is either

I wouldn't like to see it die either but there certainly does seem to have been a big drop in interest.
There's no value in a 'double rollover' IMHO. If 2 months isn't long enough then 3's unlikely to help much.

I say do the vote as per usual (regardless of the number of entries) and see what the next topic is.
Hopefully more folk will be getting out with their cameras now the clocks have gone forward and things are warming up weather wise (at least in theory).

I'd argue change the topic. I couldn't think of an entry for "theme tune".
