Guardian storyWell that's the education system privatised then. For an example of how much better the private sector can run schools than an LEA, see here. This seems to apply.

That's good news then given the poor performing crap academies Nottingham already has. A few more can't hurt.

Err... I'm not sure I follow the logic. 'Our Academies are crap so more of them will be a good thing'?

It's because the comment sounded far more sarcastic in my head than on screen!

Wife rolls eyes, and wonders how Church Schools will be affected (hers is a CofE school). Seeing as though schools will be encouraged to join “chains” than the CofE will set up their own.

the next step in the 'battle of austerity' is ... closure of all state and publicly funded schools ...

You've got it arse backwards. Once this goes through, there won't be any state schools. They won't have closed them, they'll have handed them over lock stock and barrel to the private sector. In fact under the regulations the state has to pay the legal costs of handing the assets over... Jon

The schools will still be there, they won't be called high schools or comprehensives, they'll be called academies, but they'll still be schools!
On current evidence, the academy project is a farce, but I worry about the end game if and when they finally get it right, because I sat through the presentation at my son's school as they became an academy and was genuinely startled by the language.
It was all very "helping them capitalise on their strengths" and "focusing on their talents". To me however, it came across as little more than a veiled desire to classify and pigeon-hole kids from the outset; and railroad them into the career paths the data suggested would be ideal for their abilities.

Let's not forget the Ofsted grade 1, which every school wants. Forget educating the next generation, just concentrate on getting that Grade 1, and chuck out any students who aren't perfect in every way.
I'm stopping now, as I have just deleted an expletive filled paragraph full of venom and rage... I am so sick of the way that the education sector treats our kids... OK, stopping now.
