Correct. 32-bit server versions have supported PAE, but the desktop versions never have.

It has been a while since I've concerned myself with such things but isn't it a mathematical calculation? i.e. (and in short) 232 = 4096MB. Take out some of that registered space for other memory functions and the OS reported RAM amount is what's left.
64-bit on the other hand can handle a bit more 264 = averylargenumberindeed

Could they actually address more than 4GB of physical RAM or was it just virtual memory addressing. I always thought the 32bit versions of Windows couldn't use much more than about 3.5GB of RAM even if they had more because Windows reserved some for certain things anyway and couldn't address the rest.
The PC I'm on at the moment is running Windows 7 Pro 32bit and has 4GB of physical RAM of which only 3.43 GB is usable (with 2.21GB in use).
