Government could ask BBC to trial pay service as it closes 'iPlayer loophole' | Media | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/a ... tv-licence

Isn't it amazing how quickly a government minister wants things done with the BBC relative to ANYTHING else they ever propose. It will just happen to reflect badly on the BBC and not the government, of course.

Mind you, the Beeb leadership is sorely lacking in this fight.

Arrow and Flash both had soppy filler episodes last week, and it's really starting to piss me off. The writing is godawful compared to earlier seasons and the actors can't hide it. The stunts often look terrible now, and apparently walking around with a three foot long rifle doesn't bother anyone...

SHIELD - Rather good, though they still have no idea what they're doing with Lincoln, seemingly.

Legends of Tomorrow - A half-decent episode, but that's only because they got away with throwing the kitchen sink at it. As with it's Arrow and Flash cousins, this show is seemingly just treading water until the end of the season. It's also been afflicted by the lazy writing bug... what is it with these shows and weapons? You're all about armed vigilantes, fcuking sort it out!

IMDB currently has a feature on Frankenstein on its home page, next to a still photo of Jon Snow lying dead on a slab with leeches on his body.

Those aren't leeches, they're stab wounds. However even so it is a MASSIVE spoiler.

:D.

The podcast genuinely is excellent. Plus I've seen them live and it does kind of work visually in a fairly normal panel show style. Not sure how they'll transfer from 'ludicrous facts we found out this week' to current affairs, but I'm optimistic.

If both Amazon and Netflix are in potential competition with each other, I'd say the show stands a very good chance.

Saving 'Supergirl': Will The Show Shift From CBS To The CW?
http://sciencefiction.com/2016/05/05/sa ... ft-cbs-cw/

It's hard to imagine the show without it's current budget, frankly it's the main reason it's overcome some of it's smelliest cheese. And recent episodes have been bloody dire. I find it hard to believe they were spending $300m an episode though lol.

Supergirl was filmed in Hollywood, not the usual Vancouver setting for such shows as this. Part of the rational for shooting in Hollywood was greater tax incentives to make the show cheaper to produce.
This ended up not happening, so the network had to foot far greater production costs than it anticipated.
Part of the reason it is taking so long to find out the renewal fate of the show is because it doesn't belong to CBS, so further negotiations have to be undertaken. Add to that it needs to have all principal cast onboard with a move to Canada (should that be required) and things can quickly get complicated.
I've seen it mentioned on a few websites that each ep. of Supergirl cost $3million to produce.

Supergirl moves to the CW network, Callista Flockhart has apparently remained on-board the show.

It'll be interesting to see what effect it has on the show. Hopefully if the budget is gonna be slashed they'll focus on drama and not cheese. Might give proper story arcs over freak of the weeks.

CBS no longer has any claim on any aspect of the show, so I guess the licencing fees to DC won't be necessary (why would DC need to licence it's own property to itself?) so that'll be a big portion of the cost-saving.
Shooting in Canada will also save money, so actual production costs shouldn't be that heavily impacted.
I guess we'll find out.
