Hmm, so just returned from a nice long weekend away to a text from the boss "Just a heads up, the email appears to have been down for the weekend"
WTF does he expect me to do at 9pm on a bank holiday Monday? Tomorrow morning's going to be an interesting time. Thanks for ruining my night's sleep! Fingers crossed it's just maintenance, though no one's informed us of any.
I've not responded to his text, which will probably put him in a bad mood to start the day off. Hey ho, roll on Tuesday.

I got a text 2 weeks after it was sent, but that was my fault for having turned the phone off on holiday, according to my boss - only I had been calling into to his assistant on an almost daily basis and dealing with emails using the same phone...

Or would the perfect demonstration be me saying I've not had a female manager in sixteen years of work? The oil industry is very male dominated. 10% females, max.

IME female bosses are a nightmare, generally. It's not even a chip on the shoulder, it's just downright nastiness if you're unlucky enough to have one. I'm talking about them hating EVERYONE.

We have loads of female bosses here. A lot of the top people are women. Go us! And male bosses aren't a nightmare? Whatever

Whether or not you consider your boss decent seems to be very much the luck of the draw IME regardless of their internal plumbing. My current and previous bosses are both men and have generally been fine, the two before that were woman and were also fine. There have been people I've been devoutly glad I've never had to work for but I can't really say their gender has been the driving issue - it's mainly because they were sociopathic slave driving d!cks to the people who worked for them.

I never said male bosses couldn't be a nightmare, I've had that too, but the female bosses have deliberately ripped teams and even entire departments apart out of nothing but spite. That's another level. A cnut's a cnut, but IME the worst have been female by far. Edit - as above post!

TBH the entire discussion is somewhat meaningless; we're all drawing conclusions from a statistically insignificant sample size. You'd need to have a sample size in the thousands to start to draw any meaningful conclusions.
As the saying goes, the plural of anecdote is not data!
