Just ran it three times in succession - the results jumped between the 50s and the 80s on all three scores.

The tool is sh!te.

My dad. I called him using Facetime. Spent most of the conversation looking at a black screen. He was holding the phone to his ear. I thought he might be a little sensitive about his eye (recent cataract operation) so I said nothing. Then my sister arrived and told him what to do. We all had a laugh about it.

My parents are quite up on stuff like this, so I was surprised he hadn't realised. He likes it, so we'll be doing that again.

Pandora. Remember them? I had an account with them once, then they pulled out of the global market for various copyright reasons.

Anyway, the other day I got the following email:

Quote:
As a precaution, we want to make you aware of a situation that could possibly affect your Pandora account.

First off, there is no evidence that your Pandora account has been compromised or tampered with in any way.

However, usernames and passwords that were breached from a service other than Pandora a few years ago were posted on the web recently.

In order to protect Pandora Listeners, our security teams have analyzed the data and found that your Pandora username was included in the list.

If you share passwords across services and haven't updated them recently, and you haven't already reset your Pandora password, you should do so now.

Obviously, this looks like it’s a Phishing email, so I made sure the links in the message were legit. I also typed in the URL so I knew I was going to their site to request a password reset.

I got to their boilerplate “you aren’t in the USA so goodbye” page. You can’t go anywhere else at this point.

So I emailed back, asking how I can change my password if I am in the UK. I got the following back today:

Quote:
Since you do not currently have access to the Pandora website, I have reset your password on my end to ensure that your account is secure.

I have reset your password to be: <easily guessable word and a single digit number>

When you do have access to your account you can change this back to whatever you want.

In the meantime, you can sign up to be notified when Pandora is available in new countries by visiting: http://pandora.com/restricted

Feel free to reach out if you have any trouble.

So, two things. First off, they sent me a password which a human could guess, and so could a machine. It’s word with a number at the end. Seriously, you could crack that in minutes. It]s up there with Password1, 12345, qwerty1. Secondly, the people at Pandora now know my password.

I did email back telling them this. They really need to allow all people - US or external - to manage their log in data. This really isn’t acceptable.

I imagine the captain won't be the only dead person as a result of this.

Mobile browsing. Just mobile browsing.

Websites that don't know it's 2016 or don't like your browser. Websites that won't load. Your connection relies on touch and go voodoo. Your browser crashes. Sites that will only work on a mobile in desktop mode.

Do these people have any idea how much money they're losing if nothing else?!

The makers of Pokemon Go

Oh dear. Maybe they should have thought of excluding certain types of points of interest from the database. You can see the logic in thinking getting kids into museums is a good thing, just in this particular case...

Getting kids (or even adults) into museums and other places of interest is a good thing but only if the person is paying attention to their surroundings. A succession of phone zombies traipsing through is probably not so good.

The missus and I made pizza today. Used veato's basic recipe but added in 2tbsp of milk powder. Heard it results in Pizza Hut style base. Mixed the yeast, sugar, salt and water first, let it proof before adding the bread flour/semolina/milk powder through a sieve.

The fail was when I asked the missus to thicken to pizza sauce (from a jar!) using tomato puree. For some reason, she added water to the contents of two jars. Consequently, there was water seeping out from the edges of cheese and the cheese hadn't really melted into the toppings.

The base itself was reminiscent of pizza hut but not quite there. Needs more garlic salt on the crust. But we did successfully make a stuffed crust.

I'm making pizza tonight funnily enough. I prefer my crust more in line with authentic Italian but might try the Pizza Hut method sometime.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that my Windows (8.1 Pro) installation is borked. It's not been able to run Windows update for a couple of months, random stuff has stopped working.
Various efforts to fix the problem have failed and it would appear that my last attempt has rendered my copy of Office 365 unable to authenticate so it thinks it's unlicensed.

New external hard drive on order so I can back up (manually) before trying the non-destructive reinstall. If that doesn't work I shall be taking off and nuking it from orbit.

Should have stuck with a Mac.

I've had a Mac do similar things.

My Surface Pro also started playing up, but that was in part caused by a battery failure. Due to it turning itself off, because the battery went from 100% to 0% in under a second (when it was on mains power), it managed to corrupt the registry. I had to re-install.

I recently factory reset a laptop and it took days to get the updates. Windows Update would just run and nothing would happen - ended up leaving it overnight with sleep mode disabled, and even then half the updates failed. It was a long, slow process over three to four days, running the updates in batches, to get it fully updated.
