If there already hadn't been someone who did a very similar thing, this would be a darwin award candidate.

Thing is, we KNOW this will happen. We KNOW. People won’t heed instructions, and this encourages people to abdicate responsibility for their car.

I’m just disappointed that he was’t watching porn and didn’t die mid Jodrell Bank.

It needs to be made legally clear as soon as possible that drivers are responsible for controlling they cars at all times.

It is legally clear, that the driver is responsible. They are not allowed to rely on automatic aids, they are still in control and responsible for the vehicle.

In many areas even cruise control is illegal - there are notorious blackspots on the German autobahn network, where there are big signs saying that driving with the cruise control turned on is a finable offence.

Yeah, but in America you know people will try and shift the blame to the manufacturer. (Law suits make money after all). They need to make it clear there, that that is not acceptable.

Personaly I don't think cruise control should be allowed here. People aren't concentrating as much when they use it.

Tesla has no plans to disable autopilot mode as third recent crash is revealed | Technology | The Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/ ... iving-cars

Quote:
Tesla on Tuesday said data suggested that the driver’s hands were not on the wheel when the accident occurred.

The company confirmed that the driver had enabled autosteer on an undivided mountain road, a Tesla spokesperson said in a short statement, adding that it is looking into the crash.

“No force was detected on the steering wheel for over two minutes after autosteer was engaged,” Tesla said, adding that it was contrary to the system’s terms of use.

You're kinda missing the point here...

Give people a hammer, and they’ll use it to put in screws. This is a half-baked thing from Tesla, really. They really needed it to work everywhere before they unleash it on the world.

It is logically impossible to build a computer based driving system that will never be involved in an accident as long as there are human driven cars on the road and we allow the driver to over rule the computer when he or she feels like it.
