Probably when it turns out that we can't trade freely with the EU without accepting the free movement of people.

Given how hard he pushed for Brexit, I'm surprised he's stepping down. Unless he didn't really want Brexit to happen but just wanted to further his own political gain.

He effectively won - mission accomplished so he's not going to hang around for the carnage afterwards.

EU referendum: youth turnout almost twice as high as first thought | Politics | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... ce-as-high

It also means quite a few of them would have voted to leave too, as we know from the final outcome if their participation really was undersold and still made little difference. It's a bit of a weak study altogether, from numbers to supposition.

In full: The letter from 1,000 lawyers to David Cameron over EU Referendum

More than 1,000 lawyers have signed a letter addressed to Prime Minister David Cameron saying the EU referendum result is merely “advisory” and not legally binding. Here it is in full

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/po ... 0226.html#

I do wonder what the costs will be to leave, and whether those will be really worth the sacrifice to appease a slim majority.

Did anyone else see the barely reported statement from May saying she won't call article 50 until Scotland agrees?

Ukip councillor: ‘Time to start killing’ Remain voters

A Ukip councillor who said it was “time to kill” voters who opted to remain in last month’s European Union on Facebook says his comments were meant to be “taken with a pinch of salt”.

The comments were made by Terence Nathan, Ukip councillor for Cray Valley West, who seconded his party’s motion back in February to leave the EU.

Shows the kind of person Ukip attracts.

Angela Merkel backs Theresa May's plan not to trigger Brexit this year | Politics | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... -this-year

You have to wonder how much of this could have been avoided even if Cameron hadn't just been a useless negotiator a few months back, but also if the rest of the EU realised what a sh1tstorm it would create for them. Especially when the entire world seems to be fcuking mental at the moment.

Mind you, the Leavers couldn't even believe the result, so...

The longer they leave it, the less likely it will become. We still need the negotiators, we also need to get Scotland on side.

But remember, you can't trust Labour with the economy or security. Remember that.

Let’s look and see how well negotiations with non EU states are going, considering that the EU won”t start talks until Article 50 has been triggered.

Quote:
The US has rebuffed attempts by Liam Fox to open negotiations on a free trade deal, saying that “meaningful” talks before Brexit were impossible.

Dr Fox, the international trade secretary, who is on a three-day charm offensive in the US, later had comments he made on a possible trading agreement with the EU “clarified” by No 10.

Mike Froman, the US trade representative, said that Washington would only be prepared to talk to the UK about a trade deal “at the appropriate time”.

“As a practical matter, it is not possible to meaningfully advance separate trade and investment negotiations with the UK until some of the basic issues around the future EU-UK relationship have been worked out,” Mr Froman said.

Ah, I see. So the USA won”t want to start talks until we’ve clarified our position with the EU.

How about our Commonwealth partner, Canada? They’ll be more receptive, I expect.

Quote:
However, Canada corrected Dr Fox after he suggested that “very fruitful” bilateral trade talks with Ottowa had begun. Chrystia Freeland, the international trade minister, said that the talks were “positive” but they were largely about Canada’s deal with the EU as a whole.

Oh. Err. Well.

It seems that Australia are keen, thouigh.
Quote:
Malcolm Turnbull, the Australian prime minister, told Theresa May that he wanted to sign a deal with the UK “as soon as possible”.

But they would be - Australia’s GDP (1339.54) is somewhat smaller than ours (2848.76), so they may benefit more than we will from that deal.
