So, the same model Apple has been using pretty much throughout the OS X era and also before.

This is going to kill anyone on metered downloads as the size of the update is going to grow considerably. Even now some update are quite large.

Hi, welcome to the forum. In somewhat related news Windows 10 gets another roasting over privacy shortcomings | TechRadar http://www.techradar.com/news/software/ ... gs-1326764Quite right too. Privacy has been handled with all the unethical manner of those deliberately random process tickboxes that want your email address. Windows 10 is completely failing to tempt businesses | TechRadar http://www.techradar.com/news/software/ ... es-1326752If I ran a business I'd be taking stable over 'Please work! Please work!' after an update. ..... Xbox One and done? Microsoft says it's moving beyond console generations | TechRadar http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/co ... ns-1326744

if you were running a business you'd have to be running the Enterprise version (I think, in licencing terms) which you can set to a different update model. You basically have a machine on your network that downloads the updates and then you 'release' them for other PCs to apply, depending on the policies you've applied to those PCs. So you can test updates and deploy them as and how you want. And as you imply, that's something you REALLY should be doing. If you're running a business and don't have control f when your hardware updates, you've got issues.

As the article says it's not just Apple. Intel is actively pushing for USB-C to replace as much as possible, including the headphone jack. It would be good if Apple switched from Lightning to USB-C as it would effectively give them the option of using Thunderbolt 3 for the connection (so you could really fill up your storage quickly ) but it's probably unlikely.
