After all of my posts here about DPA, I can't believe that I got a warning in my new call centre job for making a DPA mistake :o

The customer had verified their account details and security questions through the voice recognition system, so I answered the call "Good morning, you're through to Peter. Can I confirm I'm speaking with Mrs. Bloggs, please?". Apparently, I needed to confirm the customer's full name, contrary to my training notes and sample call recordings.

I'm fed up of companies interpreting the DPA in so many different ways. Apparently, that minor mistake is a serious breach of the law and we could be fined for it. I just recall the company having to keep data secure under the DPA, and I'm sure that any judge in the land would agree that the customer confirming their account number, full name, first line of their address, postal code, date of birth and amount of last payment to the automated system was sufficient for this purpose.

Peter.

Compared to last Friday afternoon anything else is quiet :D

I spent today being 3 different people so I just didn't have time to get involved :( Never mind, if we had special Fridays like last weeks all the time, well, they wouldn't be special then would they??

It sounds highly likely that whoever told you that was wrong.

It's quite common for people who don't actually understand what they're talking about to behave as if they do, especially when it comes to supervisors or "team leaders". While there are many highly competent people in such positions, it's far from guaranteed.

On the other hand, it's also not guaranteed that your training was correct. Incompetence is rife...

Garry's Mod is so awesome.

Does anyone else have this?

I got it the other day, and although its hard to pick up, you can make some awesome stuff with it! Like, I made a cannon which fires Gman. :)

Brilliant fun! :D
