You remember my comments about hysteria and not reading the news? After reading further into this thread, it seems that I’ll die if I don’t get vaccinated, or I’ll die if I do.

Airlines will ban swine flu suspects
BRITISH holidaymakers suspected of suffering from swine flu are being stopped from boarding flights.

Check-in staff at Heathrow and other main British airports are vetting passengers for possible symptoms and turning away those suspected of being infected. Some countries, including Thailand, Egypt and China have installed thermal body scanners to identify passengers with fever.

I'd rather take my chances with the inoculation than the virus, personally.

Except if the vaccination is for the wrong strain, or proves otherwise ineffective. Then you'll be taking your chances with both....

The manufacturers of the new swine flu vaccine are to be given legal indemnity amid concerns over any side effects. Regulators are due to fast-track its approval.

this indemnity is to the same bunch of s**** that tried killing the planet with contaminated flu vaccine early this year also a few years earlier had shipped HIV contaminated blood clotting agent (factor 8) to Europe after it had been withdrawn in the US for that very reason. in fact the HIV contaminated clotting agent (factor 8) was repackaged after its removal from the US market and then shipped here and they have never been prosecuted. trustworthy bunch are they not …

Sure, but then if I catch the virus then there's a very good chance I'll die (H1N1 is apparently much more damaging to the respiratory system than "normal" flu). So I'll be having the inoculation in the hopes that it is for the right strain.

What makes you think that?

The highest estimate I've read is 0.5% of all people who get infected will die, and some scientists think that is too high (clicky).

The normal death rate with normal flu is estimated at 0.1% of all infections. Do you get as worried about normal flu??

Yes frankly I do, hence I get the jab every year. And the reason is that I have "underlying health conditions" - this thing attacks the respiratory system - I have an existing respiratory condition, thus I would find it extremely difficult to breathe while this thing has a wail of a time attacking an already damaged respiratory system.

The last time I had flu it really knocked me for six, to the point where I couldn't look after myself or even leave my bed, my girlfriend had to look after me until my mum came up from home.

Yes, I'm slightly worried.

Of course, it's not for me to say don't worry about it. You're concerned, and perhaps I would be in a similar situation.

However, it does seem to me that you've been taken in a little. "The last time I had flu it really knocked me for six, to the point where I couldn't look after myself or even leave my bed" - well that's not unusual!! "This thing attacks the respiratory system" - yes, so does normal flu. My point is that things probably aren't as bad as you make out. And let's remember, you made it out to be pretty bad "If I get the virus there is a pretty good chance I will die". All the experts I've heard use a very important word when talking about the increased risks for asthma sufferers, and it's slightly.

As you say, you've had flu before. And you were bed-bound, as most people are. If you can get through that attack on the respiratory system, then I'd bet you can get through this - even if you have to receive extra treatment.

I've got a feeling you won't like that post much, but hey ho.

Nick, I thought like you did until I read that H1N1 attacks the respiratory system more severely than other varieties of the flu virus.

After 6 pages of very useful discussion I've thought this through and come to a decision - I'll do as I'm told (by the wife). There you go - takes all the worry away from poo like this :D

Yeah, I've read that article.

Well I don't have a wife, so I'll do as I damn well please. I've got asthma. I've never had a flu jab, and I'm not gonna start now.

Linux, up to you of course, but try not to read the BBC so much. Maybe then you'd be less worried. I've overcome the symptoms of my asthma before, by relaxing and forgetting about it. Being worried is simply not healthy. I believe there are forces at work here that want us to be fearful and take the vaccine on that basis. I will not capitulate. Like I said though, up to you. I just think it's highly unlikely you'll die.

Think about what we're being told. If you heard about every loser in the lottery, nobody would ever play it. Similarly, thousands of people worldwide have recovered from swine flu. Have we heard about that? Ask yourself, what's really going on here....
