						 As far as I remember, Lewis Wilson was the first Batman (1943), followed by Robert Lowery (1949).
  I remember watching them on BBC 2 when I was a kid.
  RIP Adam West, probably the best remembered Batman.

						Yeah, IIRC they were made to be shown before cinema screenings and then went into syndication for those new fangled TV things. What with content being a bit low on the ground. That's actually what happened with 66 Batman in a way. Primetime TV back then really was the whole family watching it, so there had to be jokes at every level, respected actors for the guest stars and villains, bright colours for those new colour TVs... And immediately after it finished it went into syndication around the world. Not sure if it still holds true, but for decades it was playing somewhere in the world.
