I have no experience of life in China, but from what I've seen on TV there is a huge amount of pressure on young business people to perform to a high level. When you're just one of billions, distinguishing yourself is that much harder. If you make one single mistake, you can be easily replaced. I imagine there are more truly brilliant people in China than there are breathing people in Britain.
Although the inefficiency rife in Britain never ceases to amaze me; at least where I work the occasional mistake is expected.
