Hello all,

My friend has asked me to give him some feedback on his new website, so I have started making a list of the issues, but I would appreciate your input, please. The website is for a local engineering company and is designed to give clients some information about the company.

The issues that I have identified so far are:

• Spelling and grammar errors: The site is littered with simple spelling and grammar errors, which make it look seriously unprofessional. Get someone to proof read the site before publishing it onto the Internet.
  
• Unattractive site design: The graphics on the website look as though they have been borrowed from other websites, but a lot of them really don't work in the current design.

I can see it isn't the best website in the world, but I'm struggling to give anything more detailed as feedback. Would you guys and girls mind taking a quick look, please, and let me know what you think?

It fails on CSS and HMT code validation on all pages.

Scrolling frames - AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - cannot print it !

Two different types of navigation.

Contrasts are awful - what does the text say on the selected tab of the second type of navigation?

Some other points:

Inconsistent font usage. The text at the bottom with the contact details is substantially different to the body text. Personally I would also suggest a change of body text.

Text stored as an image. Inefficient and bad for search engine optimisation, but not catastrophic as long as the ALT text is done properly. However there doesn't appear to be any.



A. This shouldn't be on the home page if they are going to insist on having it.
B. It really shouldn't be on the site at all, it should be coded to work in at least FF, IE7, IE8, and Safari. Realistically it also needs to work in IE6 as so many companies still have it enforced.

The Contact Form should be taken down until it does work. In addition, it needs to have some input sanitation to make sure people cannot abuse your web-server to send out spam.

I would also suggest adding some images of the piling equipment, as it will help give some variety to the site.

Yep, I noticed the lack of that too.There are images … Piling Equipment > Click the links > Pictures tabs.
About those links Peter, 'Bottom Driven' and 'Top Drive Heavy Wall' are both underlined in blue.
Why is the page larger than 1024 pixels wide? Given the amount of empty space either side of the main content field I'd expect it possible to at least fit in a 1024 wide browser window.

For some reason, not letting scripts run on the page displays more of it instead of less

I don't. I think there's a solid foundation there that could be a really nice 'site if only a few tweaks were made here and there.

It's built on other people's images, tables, and... JavaScript!!!

Pretty horrible.

Also, in the product section, there is no navigation! You can't go from one product to another, you have to go back to the overview menu option and select a new one.

Edit: I'll take that back, now that I have allowed javascript on the site, it pops down a list after a second or so.

It really should have text links on it too for those that don't run all the whistles and bells on their browser of choice.
