Since I updated both my MacBook Pro and the Bat Cave iMac to 10.5.7, Mail seems to have stopped playing sounds at all.

I can check the sounds are selected in the preferences, but no sound is used for new mail notification or sending mail.

Anyone else come across this? :|

There are a couple of people on other forums complaining of the same thing, however the "MSI Wind with OSX" forums are saying you need to reboot a few times and it'll start working again.

I don't reboot very often, so that's probably why it doesn't seem to fix.

Thanks, Gav. I think I'll live with it for now. :D

I get intermittent audio alerts from Mail, and I'm using my own mp3. I thought it was just being funny about that. :?

Right, I did a bit of digging around Apple's support forums. Like Gav says, it seems to be a common bug introduced with either 10.5.6 or 10.5.7.

The fix is to turn on Play user interface sound effects in System Preferences/Sound.

Don't ask me why, but this does let Mail play the activity sounds, but you have to put up with the crappy sound of things getting thrown in the trash and so on.

:?
