I have a Mondeo 2 TDCi, the 130PS, 6 speed version. It is an excellent workhorse. I get just under 50mpg out of mine on combined cycle. I have 17" summer wheels and 16" winter - to be honest, the 16" wheels give a better ride and are slightly more economical (46mpg summer, 50mpg winter).

The 130 TDCi's all seem to have the 6 speed, also on the focus cars as well

Kindof torn between the bigger engine (and so insurance etc) with the 6th gear and the 1.6TDCi if I get a focus

Really depends on what is wrong with my car though, can't afford very much tbh as I need to save for going on holiday

The 1.6 TDCi is only a 5 speed box. But I do get 500 miles from a tank though.

I put a call in to IT support on Thursday saying my workstation was slow. Finally got a call just now asking what was slow, the guy on the end seemed a little unhappy that I said it was all sluggish, I opened Outlook and said when I clicked the icon and could then actually use it and the same with Word and Excel. The guy started to say how a complex system needs XYZ resources, to which I said that year old hardware should be able to run a nine year old operating system without a hitch. He then seemed to admit to me that the system was poorly designed and then hurridly corrected himself by saying over and over "yes, that's the expected response time for such operations"...

GARGH!

Is that on the 2.0 or 1.6? What is the size of the tank? I get 6-700 miles from my megane usually on a 60litre tank

Yeah it's 5/6 speed vs economy though which is a shame

On another note...

Fin, all the TDCI Focii have 5 speed boxes. Ours has and it's the 1.8 TDCi.

However Mondy TDCis use an engine shared with the little Transit (low roof, shortest one) and have a 6 speed box. Not sure if they all do though. :/

If youre willing to go for the older shape Focus, get a 1.8 TDCi that was made before 04. They put a fixed-vane turbo on it which slowed it down. Ones older than that had a variable vane one (which means the turbo housing can make itself bigger or smaller depending on what youre doing) and were much quicker.

But don't get a TDDi though. They use the old Endura engine from the Escort, Fiesta etc. They suck and use much more fuel than the TDCi ones.

I had a Ford diesel before the common rail injection models you see today. It was noisy, slow and heavy.

Thats it!

Its not one of those stories where someone goes.... "but it was really good for....."

It was crap. New technology FTW!!!

I cant see Newcastle coming back to the Prem in a season. I can see them paying a visit to League One though! Bye bye barcodes.

The lower power Mondeo has a standard five speed. The 130PS 2L and the 2.5L (?) 150PS both have 6 speed boxes.

The 6th gear works nicely above 100km/h (60mph).

I get around 900-1000KM out of a tank, cruising at 140-150km/h on the motorway (57L).

Only real problem I've had is the navigation system, the aerial seems to corrode every 12-18 months... It need a good clean, then it is fine again.
