Evening,
I decided I wanted to try and learn some mac-ness and installed OSX on my other computer via a Kalyway DVD (I understand the legality of it). I got through the install and formatting and what have you.
Restarted and got a creamy white screen with an apple logo then a blue one ... and thats it.
I'm fairly sure I screwed up somewhere, but I don't know where. So now I got a big blue screen, a very pretty blue screen but fairly useless to me.
So any tips?

Buy a proper Mac to run OS X, or don't run OS X at all. Mark

Hmm. I'd suggest asking the sites that deal with the Hackintosh community.

I disagree with doing this, but if you must, I believe you will need to install modified drivers for your GPU - that should solve the blue screen. I also hope you bought a legit OS X licence because piracy is wrong.

Hmmm, damn, though I installed the right driver.
I shall have to try harder.

Get a smaller screen? You'll then only have a small blue screen, thus a smaller problem that could be forgotten?

Ah! A small screen! Genius idea! I shall try it post haste. Anywho, to all those tutting over me using squiffy software. Yes, I understand it's not a brilliant idea but I wish to try it first, if I use it more than a few times then I will buy it out of respect for the work that goes into it. So, if I can get it working, then I'll get it properly.

I know many people who have installed OS X on non Apple hardware who have not had a very good time at all. So try to remember that when you are using it. I've heard it's not very stable, and a little sluggish. As Mark says, if you want OS X, get a Mac.

Hmmm, well I still plan to try.
Trying a different Kernel this time as well. Should go ... badly.

Adam , don't use the Kalyway version. I've had bad experience with it. It killed the DMI Data on my old motherboard, rendering it OEM-Useless. Try and find the iDeneb version. 10.5.5 is the best as it has loads of fixes and stuff packed in. Obv I can't point you to one, but if you appear on MSN, I can guide you through it.

If it's just for testing, use a VMWARE image. Then when you decide you like it go and buy a mac, as it runs better (as the software's written for the hardware)

Sas, you can't use OSX on VMWare properly. It takes a fortnight to install, and even then you're lucky if it passes the grey Apple screen.
Yes, there are specialized images "out there", but they have a metric f*ckton of stuff stripped out of them to make them work.

Well, I got close.
Oh well, I shall give up on Hackintosh for now. Wait for either; a) Apple goes out for all or b) I buy a mac.
Have to try unix, lunix, ... the one that isn't mac or Windows.

Regret what? The ice cream I just had or the shower I'm about to take? BE CLEARER! Great, now I'm scared and disorientated. Curses.
