I've decided to upgrade the Graphics card in my PowerMac G5.
It's a measly 64mb FX5200, and gives considerable graphics lag in cover-view, garageband and iphoto.
I know I need AGP, and seeing as I run quite a number of loops onscreen at any given time in garageband, memory will be more important than speed. I'll never ever play a game on the Mac ^_^
Are there any limits to what I can get? Also, does anyone know where you can get these things dirt-cheap nowadays? I'm fairly sure I USED to have a 512mb FX5500 but that was about 6 years ago ^_^

Generally, the graphics card has to be for a Mac! That restricts your choice considerably, although there used to be some ROM images for Mach64 cards... I don't know whether this is because of the big-endian / little-endian differences between Intel and PowerPC (because Apple still limit choice, even with the Mac Pro).

Damnation.
The screen is a 24" 1920x1200.
Where would one be able to get hold of such a graphics card?

If you're handy with flashing ROMs on your PC, then there are places out there with the appropriate Mac ROMs. Drop in an AGP 9800XT Pro, flash it, stick it in your Mac. Then do one for me, for money.

This site - http://themacelite.wikidot.com/ati-flash - was pretty useful. I think between us we'd be able to fill in any gaps.

Hmm...
I rather think that it'd be safer for me to hold out until I can find a mac-compatible one, i'm really not that good at stuff like this!

150 quid for an old ATi 9600? I wouldn't give you more than a tenner for the PC version!
