As the topic says, where can I find the 'Export to PDF' button in Word 2003? I've looked under File, Save, Save As and under Print but can't find anything...
Under OpenOffice there is a button on the toolbar, but there isn't in Word...

If memory serves, Office 2003 doesn't have that facility (but I could be wrong)

IIRC Microsoft weren't allowed to include the feature as it was deemed as possibly anti-competitive.

That's all very well and good, but together with all the other limitations (imposed by Microsoft or the Systems admin) I'm becoming less and less productive, yet more and more angry and frustrated...

Another question:
I'm on a laptop today connected via a very slow connection. If I'm offline it uses local copies of documents, if I'm online it uses the copy on the server, which is quite slow...I need to be connected, so how can I make it use local copies while connected? I'm using XP Pro SP2

You can use primopdf to print to pdf for free.

You can only use offline copies when online if the slow link detection in the group policy is set at a level higher than your current connection.

Another thing to add to that is that my connection says 7MBs, but it is actually considerably less because the server is slow...

ms office live maybe able to save the word doc as a PDF but i cant find the howto on the site but open office online can save to PDF from a word doc …

there are a couple of registry entrys that can be disabled to open network docs without the delay i will post them if they are of any use …

It will be down to the connection speed, not the load on the server. The important aspect, from the employer's point of view, is that the server has the most up-to-date copy of the data (as long as you aren't working totally off-line), so that the current informaiton is backed up.

Can you create a temporary scratch-pad directory on your machine? An alternative would be to work on the scratch pad version and copy it back to the server at the end of the session - but that assumes you don't forget! (As administrator, I shouldn't be suggesting that!)

Gpoledit should be restricted and won't let non-administrators change settings, for obvious reasons; so I guess you will be stuffed.

MSR - Office 2007 has a free add-on which allows saving as PDF or XPS, no such add-on from Microsoft for 2003.

Edit: If the admins have done their job properly, he won't be able to change global registry settings either.

No, I can't I can only search for network printers...



I'd love to, however it's got to be in both Word and PDF so people can edit it...I know people can edit the LaTeX, but these people only turn the computer on if they need to, they are completely anti-technology...
