Evening chaps,

So a nice guy phoned me up and asked me to have a look at some printers. I was expecting some little dinky Dell thing but was instead greeted by no less than three monster large format printers. All of which I have no idea as to how they work.

Think one is a Epson 9800 the other a 9600 and the other works (so is no concern).

Anyway, the 9800 on startup comes up with error 00010005 which we though had to do with this drip tray but I've done a bit of google work and found it could also be to do with a small cutter part of the motor out of step.

Having never wrangled with a big ass printer, any idea how to do either of them things?

Then moving on to the 9600, it prints all colours apart from on of the blacks (does matt, gloss black). Any idea as to why the head is dropping the black at all? It's had it's head cleaned but still seems to be some issue. I'm thinking maybe a clog in the line somewhere (bit long lines from ink to head).

So, any suggestions or tips for fixes? Or is this outside of the knowledge base of the X404?

Ta chaps and chapetts.

How old are they? Have you tried a reset then reinstall?

Think the 9600 is kind old, the 9800 looks fairly new but not new enough for the warrenty. So I'm going with they are both 4years+ as it was mentioned.

Sorry, meant the owner mentioned it in conversation.

I would have gone with "they be broken" but he's got 3 and 2 died fairly close to each other, hell the 9800 broken down as I drove round.

I ve had a go at a few down here and most of the time it was dried up ink ,the problem is getting to the heads with enough alcohol to clean them ,also if you can try installing them on a laptop to see if the default settings work ,one other thing it might be you need to clean the heads 5/6 times and as this will use up the ink check if he has a spare first also is he using proper ink or refillables .hope this helps
;)
