I currently use Media Monkey with my ipod nano which I find is a much better product than itunes. Has anyone used it with an iphone?

As far as I know you need iTunes.

iTunes gives you all the Sync software for the iPhone. A place to buy and store you applications. A place to set what browser bookmarks you will sync. A place to indicate what photo albums you want syncing. etc etc.

I think Media Monkey will sync you music just fine though. It will add a layer of complication as you will be syncing with two sets of software. I doubt it will be beyond you to cope with though.

So jailbreak it then. *shrug*

Jailbreaking it won't help the developers which are being dicked about with by Apple's reluctance to specify what the policies for acceptance are and changing their minds on whether an app meets these policies or not on a whim...

Of course it will.

If you hate it so much, vote with your feet and go and use an alternative. Jail break your phone and use a service like apptism or cydia.

But then I'll be a terrorist and my iPhone will bring down all the cell towers in my area! Oh noes!

Apple seem to be swinging through a megalomaniac phase currently. I'm just hoping the bad publicity they are getting in the USA will be enough to swing them back on track.

Hyperbole? Maybe? Just a bit.

The "bad publicity" is among a small cabal of technology pundits and wonks getting their smalls twisted. Every other person on the planet neither knows nor cares, even iPhone owners.

That said, I think the fact that Schiller himself has been responding to developers and tech writers shows that perhaps they're listening to the criticism, even tho much of it is over the top.

They seem to have gone from fighting to get excellent products out to consumers to trying to control the consumers and the developer channel with an iron fist (inside a rollneck glove).

Given Apple's past open source endevours with parts of OS X, the inclusion of the developer tools in OS X's distribution, the WWDC etc. What is happening with the App Store seems at odds with their general philosophy until now. They have always been secrative about new products, but they have encouraged people to develop for them.

With the App Store, they seem to be encouraging devs to come on board and develop great programs, with the one hand, whilst at the same time, kicking sand in the same developers faces by not telling them what criteria a program needs to meet to be accepted, allowing in some dubious programs, whilst rejecting genuinely useful apps without explanation.

The App Store is a brilliant idea, but it is currently severely flawed by the human part of the process around app acceptance. If they can clear that up, the App Store could really shine.

I don't disagree with your general argument that the app store approval process needs cleaning up, but really, it's all a storm in a teacup. How many apps have been approved (and I mean genuine ones, not fart games or flashlights). Hundreds, thousands, hundreds of thousands? (I actually don't know, but I'm sure the number has a lot of zeroes.)

How many horror stories have there been of developers who've had "sand kicked in their faces" by Apple? All up it's insignificant next to the number of genuine applications that have been hassle-free.

The only one of real note has been Google Voice and I think that is truly serious because it's a case of the carrier getting involved - allegedly. I'm keen to see what they all have to say to the FCC.

There's an awful lot of apps that have to be re-worked before they get accepted. I don't know of anyone who's developped for it that hasn't had a rejection at some point, and the blogosphere/twitterverse/web-thingy seems to generally suggest this is not uncommon.

So CPWH still haven't processed my order. They haven't done a credit check nor taken any money from my credit card. I did provide a pac code to transfer a number. Apparently this takes two days but no idea if it's been done yet.

Meanwhile, O2 website now have the 32GB 3GS phones in stock and have it in black (had to order white from CPWH as they didn't have black).

Has anyone bought an iphone from either of these websites? How long did the process take?

Am considering cancelling CPWH and going to order from O2 right now.

Maybe but the CPWH website states the white 32GB model is in stock but the black one would have to be pre-ordered. I'd rather go for a black one for the understated colour. Will ring up tomorrow and see what's happening.

Yes, the black 32GB model has to be pre-ordered, but the white was in stock so I went for that instead, as I mentioned in my first post:

No, it has to be ordered. The pre- bit is superfluous and is an annoying Americanism that's crept into our language.

It's a bugbear of mine, so ignore me. ;)

Lol sorry got wrong end of stick.

I think it's crept in to the point it has infiltrated most of our lives in some way. Funnily enough, I never heard or used the word prior to the introduction of the mainstream nokia 3310.
