I quite like it! May have to pick one up for the lounge and I'll take the old one into the other room for linux-related antics. Will be interesting to see how it fares on the "thermal" front. The old one manages to cool a rather large Cell CPU quite well, but this is bound to use far smaller transistors. May be a good option for folders if it can run endlessly without going into meltdown 360-style.

Thought this was interesting:

PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai said the PS3 Slim is 30 percent lighter, 32 percent smaller and uses 34 percent less power than the current console.

I much prefer the newer one I have to say :)

It looks much better than the 'old' one. Anyone know how much price cut is on the current model then?

Hard to tell at the moment. The current 80gb model is listed on Amazon.com at the same price as the Slim model, but the 160gb Uncharted pack is $399.

I'd imagine you'll pick one up for £250, maybe as low as £225.

If that is the RRP I reckon you'll still be able to pick one up for £25 off, or £250 with a game, places it squarely against the RROD Elite, but without the 54% failure rate and with Wifi.

Don't like the sound of that - I suspect it might be partly down to all those people who installed Linux and a USB tuner, without buying Sony's own add-on...

I haven't seen anything to say the current 80gb PS3 is going to be discontinued?! Presumably if you want that functionality you buy the older fatter one. If you just want a Playstation that plays blu-ray's you can buy the thinner one.
