The "install to hard drive" option was actually added to the 360 to reduce the inevitable helicopter noise you get when playing a 360 game, highlighting the possibility that the 360 is the most poorly constructed, loudest and most unreliable piece of consumer electronics released in the modern era.

*Starts countdown to the Finlay explosion over that bit of blatant trolling.

There've been rumours about this ever since they took the BC out. I wouldn't hold your breath. Sony really have no commercial interest in doing it at this point. It made sense to do when the PS3 was a new platform and the range of 'native' games was limited - and frankly most of them weren't very good - but at this point... There are plenty of PS3 games to play and if you want to play PS2 games, you can actually buy a PS2 for less than the price of a game anyway. And if you haven't finished your PS2 games at this point - given there haven't been a whole lot of PS2 games out for maybe the last 18 months - are you really going to go back to playing them on the PS3, or are you going to end up playing PS3 games instead? Right now, the number of people for whome BC is a 'killer feature' = (those who want to still want to play PS2 games)-(Those who don't already own and don't want to buy a PS2). It's a very small group of people in the grand scheme of things. You've actually much more likely hit the spot with your final comment - it's entirely possible Sony will want to use 'encapsulated' PS2 emulation to sell classic PS2 games though the PSN, much like they currently sell classic PS1 games. There's a certain nostalgia market out there for people who played classic PS2 games back in the day and no longer have them but would pay a small fee to play them again. I don't know how big that is though. Jon

The current PS1 support is actually very good, especially if you have a PSP as well. One purchase and you can either play old PS1 games "smoothed out" on your TV or you can install them on your PSP and take them with you. PS2 support would possibly ride roughshod over the current PSP game offerings, especially the forthcoming Gran Turismo PSP and the GTA's. That said, Vice City proper (not stories) on the PSP would be nice. It may be an option with the PSP go, but you'd probably need a very large memory card for a PS2 game, given that they're on DVD.

Trolling maybe, but the 360 left me with a very bad taste in my mouth!

Sony: PlayStation 2 compatibility 'is not coming back' to PS3http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/20/sony ... ck-to-ps3/As the article points out, I still wouldn't bet against it... I simply have too many PS2 games I still like to play and not enough space for two consoles. You only have to look around the message boards to see that a lot of people want the BC, whether Sony would like to accomodate them or not is another matter. I still have PS1 games I love playing!

I do use that a bit myself as it happens. Even though I have WipeOut Pulse and Pure for the PSP I still play the 'original' wipeout on me PSP sometimes. BTW, Wipeout HD is one of the best games of this generation so far, both in technical and artistic terms. The method you are sold it and the platform it's on are kind of irrelevant to that. If it was on the 360 it'd be bloody brilliant on there too. The game size of PS2 games wouldn't necessarily be an issue - they may have come on a DVD but very few of them actually filled it. With the PSPGo having 16GB internal SSD and an external memory card slot (which IIRC can take up to 32GB cards), there's scope for an awful lot of stuff to be stored on a PSPGo. I'm not sure though if the PSP actually has enough juice to reasonably emulate a PS2 - they're roughly equivalent in terms of what they can do, so if you add in the extra overhead of emulation I don't think the current range is up to the job. Definitely an option with the PSP 2 whenever that turns up though. I assume in a couple of years... Jon

Running mine without installed games isn't that loud, must have been the older versions and for the failure rate, I have had 2 with no issues...
