Sounds bang out of order if you ask me.

Yup, but unfortunately it is not uncommon.

By changing the role slightly and job title it's an easy way to cut down your staffing numbers. Councils, NHS, and other government bodies find it a very good method.

My mum had to reapply for her job last year, fortunately she got it, but some others weren't so lucky.

Good luck Spreadie, the only advice, well, get suited and booted and make sure you get to bed early enough the night before.

Make sure you know what their requirements & success factors are for the now larger job (this may be different from your current job) and make sure that to tell them, subtly, how you are the best candidate in all these areas. Have concrete examples ready. Remember you have the inside track as you know the job better than anybody else.

Good luck.

Good luck!

On the bright side; you're well placed to get the position and it must surely come with a pay rise?

Good luck to both of you.

Apart from my job at an ad agency, where I was told the boss hated suits, I've always worn a suit for an interview...

My only insight would be that you can't account for anyone else. So simply be confident in your own abilities and leave the rest up to them. Good luck.

You too Al.

That's [LIFTED]. Any recourse for constructive dismissal or another post there?

Yes, there is another post, working as part of the team I was managing. It's less money and I lose my car, but swallowing my pride is probably a better option than facing the job market at present.

I could only argue for constructive dismissal if, in turning down the other role, they denied me redundancy money, on the grounds that I didn't want to work. That is not the case, the manager presented both redundancy and the other role as options.

He also discussed the possibility of other roles if they become available during my notice period, however unlikely that may be.

I am waiting for details of my severance package before I do anything, fifteen years is a long time; although I doubt the money will do anything more than give us a holiday and see us through christmas.

Real bad day to get the news though, it's my birthday!
