Very interesting point. If kids weren't so cotton wooled these days, the adults they would grow into would have more common sense. Therefore, they should require less legislation.

But at some point there were kids who weren't cotton wooled, then they grew up and wrapped their children in cotton wool...

I can see the point of protecting children.
The only filter I would add to protection measures would be to ask the question "has this activity caused significant harm to children in the past?". If not then no need to protect, if so do what you have to to protect children.
As a boy I could buy fireworks, we could play with them and throw them and so forth. I was never harmed, some children however were blinded and scarred. A caring society does not allow children to be harmed.

I agree, but at what point does "protecting from harm" actively cause more harm? I'd argue we've actually passed that point. Children are growing up in a risk averse world, and therefore are more likely to come to harm than the world I grew up in. There's a lot to be said for Germolene and bruises.

Crowd surfing to be stopped? From the BBC: Here's a Clicky but do be careful about clicking on it, you might get Repetitive Strain Injury. And are you sat in front of your computer properly?

They have done this at gigs for some time now I think the reason is (aside from it being annoying for others) is they could fall on one person and cause some serious injuries, I know when I was at Leeds fest people would just move out of the way, or when they got to the end they would be sent out I don't see why one person should be able to ruin someone elses enjoyment of a gig by making them carry that persons weight (and it's normally the chubbier drunk type who tries it)

Did anyone else instantly have the Mr Benn theme pop into their head on seeing that image?

I got kicked in the head by a crowd surfer as the idiot was flailing his legs about. I got my revenge on his next pass.
