http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/c ... d-spell-grThis happened to me a few months ago and they cancelled my card mentioning that it was becoming quite common, but I didn't think it was as widespread as this... I've posted this in the News section too as I'd hate to see anyone getting ripped off by these gits

Happened to me last week, the card company called me up about some suspicious activity (including Vodafone airtime... I'm not on Vodafone) so challenged them and my card was cancelled
Makes me glad to use a credit card currently with all this fraud going on.

How do people not notice an extra 30 quid on their statements?

Mine didn't even make it onto my statement before the card issuer contacted me about it Annoyingly I had only just received my new card, and hopefully will get the replacement before I go on holiday

Can be easily enough missed - it's probably psychological too, I don't like reading down everything I've spent a lot of money on

It's probably easier to spot on credit cards than on debit cards. With debit cards you get pretty much all your monthly transactions - cashpoint withdrawals, direct debits, standing orders, debit card payments etc - on one bill. It would be somewhat hard to spot one additional transaction in that lot, especially if you are actually a subscriber for the phone network the scam is run on. Jon

My sister, for example, never checks her bank or card statements Peter.
