Has anyone ever studied a course through the OU?

I'm thinking of starting a Mathematics BSc course with them and wondered if anyone had any advice, warnings, etc...

I know it will take quite a while to finish but I don't have a degree at the moment and would like something to do whilst at home.

My mum did a course part time.... aside from the length of time to do it she didn't have any issues

Only issue I would have is no face to face lectures on some parts

A guy I used to work with did another BSc with the OU and then went back to do a Masters, he's currently studying a Ph.D with them I think...They must be good if he's gone back again and again...

Cool, thanks for the encouragement :D

I think I'm going to enrol for the first course starting in October :D

I'm also elligible for some funding help which is evry nice too :D

I might finally get the degree I started studying for 7 years ago

(I had a look at the credit transfer thing to try and reduce the amount I have to do but I can only get 30 points back at level 1 which is the same as the first module and I would probably need to do that as a refresher anyway)

Well, I've registered on the course now!

Slightly worried about getting my funding application back in time though.

They say they will send the form in 10 days and it has to be back with the on September 11th?!

That gives me less than one week to get all my stuff together and send it back!

I start on October 3rd :D

Good luck Oli.

My nan did a BSc in computing with them. She went and worked at BAE writing air traffic control software in C so their courses must be pretty well respected.

My old flat mate did two or three with them. I still have all his old astronomy and relativity books, although I've not read them. Still under the bed after 15 years, so I think it's fair to say I'm not cut out for it!

I wonder if they still send you crates of books. Seriously, I've never seen such a pile outside a library!

You'll need a lot of self motivation, but I think you've the character and enthusiasm needed to succeed. Good luck!
