Don't really understand why everyone's so anti Big Brother. There are plenty of programmes I can't stand, so I don't watch 'em.

I think there's more to it with BB.

With most programmes, they're fiction - the people in them are actors. In BB, the people aren't. I think quite a lot of people have a sense of.. disquiet about how they are treated and the people who are chosen, some of whome (to me at least) seem incredibly ill-equipped for what they are being thrown in to. And you can't help but suspect they are chosen for exactly that reason. To a lot of people, BB looks horribly exploitative.

Secondly, there's the simple volume of it. Again, if you don't like a show, generally you have to 'not watch it' for an hour a week say. If it's a soap, maybe half an hour three times a week. BB takes over a much larger chunk of the C4 schedule than any other show. It's, what, an hour a night every weeknight, an extra hour on Friday and then time at the weekend as well? It's inherently more ubiquitous than any other show on television and therefore 'not watching it' requires more effort, even subconciously, than any other show on television therefore people find it more irritating.

I don't like BB because I'm rather repelled by the voyeuristic aspect of it all. I feel no sadness for it's passing at all.

WOOOHOOOO no more utter **** on TV... O wait.. they still have Eastenders, Neightbours, Home and Away, Americas Next Top Model and the many other horrific programs out there.

What I would really appreciate is some well formulated educational programs, perhaps that allowed practical approaches as well. Why cant they show things that are educational and interesting (I know alot of Scientific stuff can be good practically). Something like a do it yourself Rubens Cube or similar.

The other problem is that the TV channels only show educational stuff really patronisingly and really late (like 2am...) or early whichever way you look at it.

Personally I reckon that the quality of TV reflect the population, even influences.

Thank heavens that's over.

Neighbours is, in fact, awesome. I hope it never finishes.

Absolutely, Big Brother is all part of the "Heat magazine" airheaded junk culture that appeals to the worst sorts of people and manages to sum up everything that is wrong with this country. It is a bit tragic that with the exception of Top Gear, the best things on British TV at the moment comes from the USA! The Simpsons, Scrubs, Two & a Half Men etc.

A bit random I know but would anybody else like to see Dusty Bin and the Honey Monster appearing on Celebrity Big Brother?

Any more suggestions for "celebrities" that have been thus far overlooked?

Brilliant! What about Basil Brush?

In fact, all of the above would be just as good in "I'm a celebrity..." Imagine that... Basil Brush and Sweep could be the new Peter and Jordan ;) :P

Edit to add... Zippy? I think Mr. Red might have something to say about that! ;)

Yup America owns us for TV... gotta agree there.

Although I only really watch House out of those (Hugh Laurie ftw :P )

Yes, very droll... ;)

That's nearly as bad as me saying forget Dusty Bin. He'd be rubbish...

Papa Smurf and <insert name of favourite Womble> might be good though.

You do have to remember that we only get to see the "best" of American TV. Theres so much crap and [LIFTED] that we thankfully never see.

True.. however what does the 'best' of British TV consist of.... nothing that would even be considered as 'nearly best' if it was American...

I disagree.

Doctor Who. Brilliant. British.
Life on Mars. Brilliant. British. (I should also add Ashes to Ashes. British. Brilliant)
Was The I.T. Crowd british, or was it based on an American idea? Either way. Brilliant.
Father Ted. British. Brilliant.

The list goes on but I'll end with...

Tellietubbies. British. Brilliant! ;) :P

Now, enough of this US Vs UK TV malarky and allow me to continue my threadjack! :P

Where were we...? Aahhh yes, as yet uninvited celebrity tv guests :D
