Doctor Who. Brilliant. British.
Life on Mars. Brilliant. British. (I should also add Ashes to Ashes. British. Brilliant)
Was The I.T. Crowd british, or was it based on an American idea? Either way. Brilliant.
Father Ted. British. Brilliant.

Shh, threadjacking can continue in a minute :D

Dr Who... that is so overrated at the moment... plus it has only a few good episodes to its name (tbf that 'mummy' one was rather scary :O )
Life on Mars was good I agree, however ashes to ashes.. Im not so sure, it kind of died after the first series.
IT Crowd.. No idea, but it is genius :)
Father Ted, the best ones always seemed to involve 'drink'

Thing is, im not sure apart from IT Crowd how well they would be accepted in the US market..

To answer your question, Life on Mars was, (or still is?) being made in America, and it's quite popular, apparently.

Father Ted? Given the popularity of the Catholic church in the States, I think that'd be rather well received as well.

Can we play now...? Pleeeeeease?

I'm a celebrity hosted by Bert and Ernie... Oh, wait... I think it already is!

You do have to remember that we only get to see the "best" of American TV

True.. however what does the 'best' of British TV consist of.... nothing that would even be considered as 'nearly best' if it was American...

The best of British is mostly over 10 years old - they stopped filming Red Dwarf in 1999
Black Adder - 1989
Fawlty Towers - 1979
Only fools & Horses - 2003 (a brief blip)
Cracker - 1996

The rest has been overly morose, miserable soap junk or reality TV.
