I had a PC on a network that caught a virus and started sending out spam. Needless to say this meant we ended up on Barracuda, Spam Cop and a couple of other lists. No problem; just took the naughty computer off the network, cleared the IP from the lists and let everyone know that mails would be delayed while the delistings propagated.
So its a couple of days later, and there are still a handful of remote domains refusing our emails... And there's one blacklist that still has us listed, an outfit called backscatterer.org. Now, these guys aren't like the others, they hold your IP on the list for 4 weeks and only remove it before then if you pay them to. The sum is fairly small (50 Eur), but I don't like the idea that I'm being held to ransom by pikeys. I feel obliged to withhold the funds and thereby contribute to their bankruptcy if possible.
Has anyone else had any dealings with these guys? And if so, did you develop the same impression I have that they are just chancers who will happily annoy their own consumers with a flood of false positives in order to extract funds from strangers? Or am I being too harsh?
