Wow!

That's getting close to the extremes of the Heisenburg Uncertainty Principle though isn't it?

Surely to have a picture of a molecule (and almost each atom within the molecule) you would have to isolate one molecule and "focus" in on it.

They've managed to get the resolution by "sticking" a molecule of carbon monoxide to the end of the AFM cantilever to make it more sensitive. The one we have at work doesn't give anywhere near the resolution this one does (but there again it doesn't need cooling with liquid helium).
