Now, I personally think the BBC has been losing it's way recently in a lot of aspects, but give me it over anything the Murdochs (senior and junior) and their gang of scrotes can knock out

Quote:
The chairman of the media giant in Europe, which owns the Times and Sun, also blamed the UK government for regulating the media "with relish".

The government wishes it could regulate the media 'with relish'

Quote:
"The expansion of state-sponsored journalism is a threat to the plurality and independence of news provision," he told the Edinburgh Television Festival.

No, that'll be you, your dad and, as far as you are concerned, semi-professional journalistic bloggers :)

Quote:
"It is essential for the future of independent digital journalism that a fair price can be charged for news to people who value it," he said.

Who in their right mind would pay for the likes of The Sun online - they can't even tell you the truth about an upcoming film

Quote:
Former BBC director general Greg Dyke said Mr Murdoch's argument that the BBC was a "threat" to independent journalism was "fundamentally wrong".

He told BBC Radio 5 live: "Journalism is going through a very difficult time - not only in this country but every country in the world - because newspapers, radio and television in the commercial world are all having a very rough time."

He said declining advertising revenues in the recession, rather than the corporation, were to blame for the problems facing the commercial media.

That.

I'm sorry, but if Sky News and the Scum are the best the "independent" profit-motivated idiots can come up with, then I'm sticking with the BBC.

The quality of Sky News is shocking, not quite as bad as Fox News (who owns that then? ;) ) but you can see the direction that "independent" and "pluralistic" news is going. Sometimes I think the BBC is the only body putting out quality content.

I generally agree with the sentiments here, but I ache for the day the Beeb realises its news operation doesn't need to chase ratings and can actually deliver news content of quality and honesty.

Heather I can happily confirm that its news Division is very very aware of that regrettably those higher in the pecking order don't seem to though.

Same goes for Children's TV, Costume Drama and Natural History.

But people don't seem to want to pay for it

ps I'm biased though.
