I colleague of mine asked for help with choosing a Mac laptop for her daughter. In the end we decided on the basic MacBook.

She then told me she was getting it from PC World.

I told her to check that it has Snow Leopard and iLife 09 installed on it.

She came back today to say that it had iLife but only Leopard. "But PC World told her she can order Snow Leopard for only £7.99 from Apple".

I have heard this same thing over and over. I would stop them from selling Apple products altogether. They obviously have no clue about anything. Removing the product will only improve the situation in that when you buy an Apple product from Apple you know what you are getting.

Looking at the PC World [LIFTED] it looks like they sold her the 2.13GHz model not the 2.26GHz model also.

F*cking cocks.

Yes they should be able to. If people are going to be enough of a doughnut to buy a PC from PC World, let alone a Mac, then frankly they get what they deserve.

Your point being? The shop over the road from the off-licence I work in sells Rattler for about 20 pence more per bottle than we sell it. Should they be allowed to sell Rattler then?

Yes but is it Rattler that is out of date?

My point is PC World should be selling what Apple are selling. If they make it cheaper/more expensive then that's up to them but they should be selling a current product. Not one that is out of date.

So what are they supposed to do with the current stock exactly? It's the customers choice as to whether they buy it or not, PC World aren't forcing it on them. And shops sell stuff that's past it's best before date all the time...(which is perfectly legal by the way).

I guess I just care too much about the fact that people think they are getting a good deal because they are spending (apparently) £30 less than through the Apple store but they are actually getting ripped off by a big fat cat corporation.

I guess the question being asked is "Should Apple let PC World sell their products, or would they tarnish the brand by not selling them properly/providing the buyer experience and service that Apple offer themselves or through their premium retailers". Or something.

Well clearly Apple think so, otherwise Apple wouldn't allow them to sell their products.

It seems to be standard practice for Apple.

The nearest Apple Store here (north Germany) is Cambridge, England!

My only option are 2008 vintage MacBooks (original unibody, before it was made a MacPro), one dealer is still trying to shift pre-unibody MBPs!

I actually bought mine there - I was buying on credit and the HFC were offering a better rate than Comet/Santander - but I had to tell the PC World staff that they had the laptop I wanted in stock. I made them check the stock room to bring out an MB990 as they still had the old ones on display.

Meanwhile, across the road in Tesco, they are still selling the 2ghz plastic imac's running Tiger...

Trouble is, SL has only just been released and they're not shifting Apple hardware that quickly, so they won't be getting anything with SL pre-loaded for a while.

We're getting a John Lewis here at the end of the month, so that offers a suitable alternative for Apple hardware.

I got mine direct from Apple. Next-day delivery and education discount FTW!
