This version 3.0 software update is awful. They're ruined the start-up sound, the sparkly bits are horrible and I now get "PS3" in the new-style lettering that appears on the crappo new PS3s. I don't have a crappo new PS3 like ernie does, so I don't see why I should get subjected to these horrible, horrible changes. :(

Who's this ernie with the crappo PS3? Personally, I'm taking delivery of a 60gb model tomorrow ;)

I was wondering about the effect Sony's updates might have on things in general - Sony always machine gun their own feet somehow

Ruined? Still works doesn't it??
Couldn't care less what the startup sound is.

Those "crappo" PS3's have the same innards as yours, so they run on the same firmware.

Cant the new one bitstream Dolby TrueHD audio?

"PS3 Slim owners can still kick back in smug satisfaction each time the TrueHD or DTS-HD MA indicators light-up on their receivers."

Not so 'crappo' if you have a decent audio setup at home.

Well yeah, not exactly the same - the slim has a newer more thermally efficient CPU and a bigger hard drive & a different power supply, but it is similar enough to work on the same firmware.

Personally not any issue with the PS3 update. Turn on PS3. Find controller. Find remote. Turn on TV and change to HDMI channel. By the time I've got everything sorted, the PS3 is up and running. No silly start-up display to gawp at.

Glad it's not just me then. The PS3 is blind refusing to connect to the router at the moment, so I've moved it and gone back to wired.
