Domestic carbon emissions will have to be cut even more to allow the aviation industry to grow.

Surely we need to trim back the aviation industry instead. Why do we need domestic flights to start off with?

Agreed. There is too much air travel these days, when there is little or no need for it.

That said, my brother works for Airbus... Erm, MORE PLANES!!!! WE NEED MORE PLANES!

Carbob?

;)

We need to focus on coping with the changes rather than worrying about aviation, surely? Isn't shipping a larger polluter?

Per tonne transported, shipping is a relatively minor polluter, in comparison to flying. Some shipping lines are also looking at kites and sails to help reduce fuel costs, which in turn reduces emissions. It is still a relatively small market, but with rising fuel costs, I can see more and more ships being converted to hybrid propulsion...

We need domestic flights because we don't have a decent rail network. Instead of constantly trimming things, we should be looking to generate more non-carbon based power (nuclear or renewable) and investigating how to deal with "climate change" and all the other change that has rapidly happened over the past 150yrs.

I think we should just kill every one in a prison, any where in the world.

Belfast - London/anywhere in the UK is classed as a domestic flight.
To have those removed and replaced with having to catch a ferry to Scotland then the train down to London (or wherever) would be a serious drawback, in my opinion.

There will be a tunnel eventually. I have never taken a domestic flight, and I really can‘t see why I should. I’ll drive or take a train. There are times when I think we need o question more the facility of everything and what the cost is - not in energy consumption but in the insatiable need to be •there• instantly.

Not a chance.
London to France is profitable, there's no way a Belfast - anywhere on the mainland wouldn't be anywhere near profitable enough to justify the expense of creating it.
