I agree the death rate should be increased, but it's more likely to be caused by something from nature.

Nature has been trying to control humans for centuries. Bubonic plague, influenza, typhoid, smallpox, AIDS...

The problem is, being a smart ape, humans usually find a way to cure or prevent such things, so the natural curbs on our population are not there any more. Remember that the planet's population of humans has more than trebled since the 1945.

That's a scary prospect.
