Ian Bell still hosts some copies of the game on his site: http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/game.htm

That site is still the same as it was 6 years ago when I first saw it!

OH MY GOD!
I'm going to run one of the emulators on my netbook.

I’d also like to plug Oolite - http://www.oolite.org/ which is a pretty good interpretation of the game. I think I’ll have to try the Archimedes version of Elite on an emulator I have here. I have not got any proper hardware to pay it on ATM.

I'd love to see the Arc version remade with DX10 graphics. As long as they left the gameplay alone.

Why? Most of the time you're sat looking at the inky blackness of space. Unless you jump into Witch Space and take on the Thargoids. Gnar.

I remember playing this when it came out (so that makes me old?!).
Played on Imperial side and got to Viscount (I think)
Some great ship designs - always thought 1 looked like the Liberator from Blakes 7

Ah, the frustration of learning to dock before you had enough funds to buy auto-docking...
Frickin' loved that game. I don't think I'd really want to play it in an emulator, it was great at the time as there was nothing comparable. It would be unfair to play it now and ruin that memory.

Good plug, I went for Oolite and it runs fine on my NC10. Nothing has changed.
