The Pope makes a historic visit to West Belfast. Standing up in front of the microphone he says to the thousands in the assembled crowd:

'I declare these games... open!'

He promptly sits back down. His now rather nervous aide says to him, 'With all due respect Holy See, erm, this isn't the Olympics...'

The Pope looks baffled and asks, 'Really? So what's with all the tracksuits?'

;)

I suppose that's a bit better than Tom Cruise spreading his cult crap over here.

I image my missus will want to go and see him. The in-laws certainly will.

I hope he enjoys his visit. I certainly did when I visited his house a few months ago. The decor was a bit OTT but the place was nice and spacious. Very 'open plan' as they say.

The National Secular Society said it was planning demonstrations against the visit in protest at what it called Pope Benedict's "intransigence and fundamentalism".

A spokesman for the society said it would "make clear to the Pope that whatever celebrations the government lays on for him, he is not welcomed here by everyone".

Wtf?! Have we run out of tolerance in this country? (Actually, maybe that's a moot point, coz we so have) I don't agree with a lot of his views, but let the guy do his thing.
